||Lecture Invitation||

The Department of Art and Design is pleased to invite artist Chiu Chih-Wei for a guest lecture in the course Contemporary Exhibition and Creative Research (Spring 2026).
Faculty members and students interested in the lecture are warmly welcome to attend.

Speaker: Chiu Chih-Wei
Topic: From Everyday Landscape to Spatial Installation: Creative and Curatorial Approaches in Three Solo Exhibitions
Date & Time: March 31, 2026 (Tue.) 15:10–17:00

Introduction
This lecture presents a reflection on three recent solo exhibitions by Chiu Chih-Wei over the past two years (2024–2026):
* The Giant Thing by the River (2024, FreeS Art Space)
* The Elevated ______ (2024, Chiayi Art Museum)
* Climbing Game (2025, Soft Wheel Gallery)
Through these exhibitions, the artist will revisit the development of his creative trajectory and exhibition practices.
Chiu’s work often begins with long-term observation of everyday landscapes, focusing on overlooked urban infrastructures and structural elements—such as bridges, elevated roads, construction frameworks, and playground equipment. These elements are reinterpreted through photography, sculpture, and spatial installation.
In his works, large-scale urban structures are transformed into spatial experiences perceivable by the human body. For instance, in Climbing Game, the steel framework of an unfinished building is reimagined as an “adult-scale climbing structure,” reflecting the unstable conditions embedded in contemporary urban environments and generational contexts.
The lecture will address the conceptual development of these exhibitions, the processes of artistic production, and strategies of spatial configuration. It will also explore how the artist constructs relationships between viewing, scale, and bodily positioning through images, objects, and installations within the exhibition space.
